When my daughter decided which university she was going to attend, it was exciting. Once the formalities were out of the way, we started looking at the fun things we could get into before she checked in. Being an avid food lover, she’d seen a few restaurants in the area that had appeared on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives (Triple D) and we decided to try at least one. Italian food being one of our faves, we chose Pastabilities.
Located in downtown Syracuse and not too far from SU, it didn’t take us long to get there. Seeing as it was raining and dorm move-in week, parking was a bit of a challenge, but I managed to score a parking spot right in front while my daughter went inside to wait for a table, which was going to be about 45 minutes. Not bad considering a lot of the people waiting with us seemed to have the same plan – visit a Triple D restaurant after moving their freshman into residence.
Once we were seated, service was fast and friendly. I’m not the most adventurous eater when I go out. I had the standard pasta and meatballs. I believe my daughter had pasta, broccoli and shrimp with an Alfredo sauce; I remember the little boy sitting at the table next to us looking at her plate eyes wide when her food came lol. Starting with calamari was a great choice, too.
Everything was awesome. The pasta is incredibly fresh. And the sauce… THE. SAUCE. You can’t go there and not have the stretch bread with the hot tomato oil. I wish there was a way for me to have it once a week, even though they have a bakery across the street.
A year later my mom and I went up for a visit and we got to have Pastabilities goodness all over again. This time it was the beginning of Fall. I was grateful for less of a wait than our first visit because it was brisk outside, but nice and toasty inside. Writing this post has made me hungry all over again…
